United Airlines will soon offer direct flights linking Portland, Maine to the West Coast, with new routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco set to begin this summer. This milestone marks the first time the Portland International Jetport will offer nonstop services to these major Californian cities. Starting June 27, travelers can take advantage of weekly flights every Saturday, operating on the Boeing 737 aircraft, which offers a seating capacity ranging between 126 to 179 passengers. Friday marks the start of ticket sales for these anticipated routes. Airport Director, Paul Bradbury, expressed excitement over this development, highlighting it as a significant expansion of service offerings from the Portland Jetport. Not only does this addition enhance Portland's connectivity, but it also aligns with United Airlines' strategy to expand its network, connecting more passengers effortlessly during the summer travel period. The service will complement existing flights, cementing United's presence with direct connections to its seven key domestic hubs. For Zach Sundquist, Assistant Airport Director, these routes are seen as a vital bridge during the peak tourism season, offering convenient access for travelers to and from the West Coast. This move addresses the gap in direct flights to top demand destinations previously unserved by the jetport. In addition to the new West Coast routes, the Portland Jetport will continue to offer Saturday flights to Houston and maintain daily operations to major cities, including Chicago, Denver, New York City, and Washington, D.C. The expansion promises to enrich travel options and boost local tourism by tapping into critical markets.
