The production is based on the play by J. Anouilh, inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy of Sophocles. In 1943, against the backdrop of the occupation of Paris by the Nazis, the playwright presents the story of the main character’s struggle against the domineering hypocrisy and callousness, as well as against the banal desire for philistine happiness. This struggle still resonates today.
“Antigone” is a story about the importance of choice and being true to oneself, about youth maximalism, about love and loneliness. The play asks questions about life values, the answers to which must be found by the audience. The play is an invitation to think about what role each of us is ready to play in life.
