Njoku Joins Chargers: A New Chapter in California

by Lilit May 12, 2026

Veteran tight end David Njoku's long free agency journey has finally reached a fruitful conclusion as he joins the Los Angeles Chargers for the 2026 season, ready to team up with rising star quarterback Justin Herbert. Having completed a nine-season stint with the Cleveland Browns, the move to California marks a significant new chapter in Njoku’s career, offering fresh opportunities after fluctuating league interest. While with the Browns, Njoku amassed impressive statistics—4,062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns over 118 games. However, his career was disrupted by injuries, preventing him from completing a full season since 2021. The highlight of his Browns tenure came in 2023 when, under Joe Flacco’s leadership, he achieved 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection. In Los Angeles, Njoku joins a dynamic group of tight ends led by Oronde Gadsden, alongside another recent addition, former Ravens TE Charlie Kolar. In this setup, Njoku's dual capabilities as a receiver and blocker will be a valuable asset for the Chargers, enhancing their offensive options. Due to his late signing in free agency, Njoku's move will not affect the compensatory draft picks for either the Browns or Chargers. Though he may not assume a starting role immediately, Los Angeles is an ideal destination for Njoku to revitalize his career and make significant contributions to a team on the rise.
