Israeli Iron Dome Deployed in UAE Amid Tensions with Iran

by Lilit April 26, 2026

In a strategic military maneuver, Israel delivered its Iron Dome air defense system to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid escalating tensions with Iran. This unprecedented deployment included a full battery of interceptors and several dozen operators from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The move came after a direct appeal from UAE's leader, Mohamed bin Zayed, following Iran's aggressive missile and drone attacks targeting the Gulf state among others. This decision marks a historic collaboration as it is the first occasion where Israel has positioned the Iron Dome defense system outside its own borders, or those of the United States, which traditionally utilizes the system. The escalation followed a joint strike by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian military objectives that resulted in significant leadership losses for Iran, including the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The conflict saw Iran unleash a barrage of 550 ballistic and cruise missiles, along with over 2,200 drones directed at UAE targets. Despite the success of Israel’s Iron Dome in intercepting these projectiles, the initial strikes resulted in substantial destruction of critical energy and aluminum production infrastructures. This created a state of force majeure within the UAE’s oil industry, severely impacting their economic stability. The UAE's reliance on Israeli defense technology signifies a strengthening of ties initiated under the Abraham Accords, which laid a foundation for diplomatic and military cooperation between Israel and several Arab nations, including Bahrain. Israeli defense firms are actively engaging with partners in the UAE, enhancing its military capabilities with systems such as SPYDER and Barak missile defenses. In the wake of the conflict, both nations have expressed sentiments of increased cooperation and mutual support, attributing improved security to this newfound alliance. The collaboration underscores a significant shift in regional dynamics, focusing on united efforts against common threats and boosting defense readiness through shared technologies and strategic alliances.
