Sister Francis Dominici Piscatella, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest nun, has just commemorated her 113th birthday in Amityville, Long Island. Born in 1913 and joining the Sisters of St. Dominic at just 17, Piscatella embarked on a lifetime of service and teaching that spanned over nine decades. Despite having lost part of her arm due to a childhood accident, she became an unwavering educator and role model, teaching high school students and serving as a professor at Molloy College for more than half a century. At her recent birthday celebration, attended by family and friends, a special proclamation from the Vatican acknowledged her inspiring journey. Reflecting on her long life, Piscatella attributes her strength and longevity to a steadfast faith, family support, and a touch of good fortune. The milestones of her journey include witnessing the service of ten popes and countless transformations within her community. Her life and work have not only touched her family, evident in the words of her great-great-niece Alexa Grimley, but have inspired numerous others who have benefited from her teaching and wisdom. The centenarian's story exemplifies resilience, dedication, and the profound impact of living a life devoted to education and service.
