Suns Secure Playoff Spot, Eliminate Warriors

by Lilit April 17, 2026

In an exhilarating matchup at PHOENIX, the Suns triumphed over the Golden State Warriors with a decisive 111-96 victory in the NBA's play-in tournament, ensuring their entry into the Western Conference playoffs. Major contributions came from Jalen Green, who racked up an impressive 36 points, and Devin Booker, who added 20 to the tally. The win positions the Suns as the No. 8 seed, setting up an intense first-round playoff series against the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, with the opening game scheduled for Sunday. This victory marks the end of the road for the Warriors this season. Jalen Green demonstrated incredible efficiency, hitting 14 out of 20 field goal attempts and sinking 8 of his 14 shots from beyond the arc. Jordan Goodwin also shone, scoring 19 points, pulling in nine rebounds, and creating havoc on defense with six steals. Tensions flared late in the fourth quarter, resulting in technical fouls for both Booker and Draymond Green, leading to their ejections. Despite the heated exchange, the Suns maintained their composure. Stephen Curry, facing tight defense, struggled to find his rhythm and ended the night with a subdued 17 points, making only 4 out of 16 shots. Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors' efforts with 23 points. The Suns began strong, building a significant 69-53 lead midway through the third quarter, thanks to a strategic fast-break finish by Royce O'Neale. They held a solid 85-72 advantage entering the final period. While previously the Suns had faltered late in games, they managed to hold their ground this time. Despite a spirited attempt at a comeback by the Warriors, who briefly narrowed the gap, Phoenix swiftly regained control with a critical scoring run. This result prevents the Suns from becoming the first team to lose both play-in games at home under the new tournament framework introduced in 2021. The Warriors battled additional challenges as Kristaps Porzingis played limited minutes due to ongoing ankle issues. He concluded the game with 11 points in just 15 minutes on the court. Phoenix capitalized on the Warriors' early mistakes, establishing a commanding 13-2 lead from the outset and extending it to 33-15 by the end of the first quarter. Golden State managed to reduce the deficit to five by halftime but ultimately could not carry the momentum to a win.
