Jalen Green Shines for Suns with Renewed Vigor and Versatility

by Lilit March 30, 2026

Jalen Green, long celebrated as one of the NBA's premier athletes, is showing substantial growth as a dynamic scorer this season, partially due to overcoming a persistent hamstring injury. Despite missing out on some of his famous high-flying dunks, Green is exhibiting outstanding fluidity on the court, slipping past defenders with ease. Since the return of fellow star Devin Booker, Green has found a rhythm, as evidenced by impressive statistics over the past 14 games — averaging 22.8 points, successful drives to the basket, and a high shooting percentage both in and outside the paint. This resurgence is a testament to his improving physical condition and strategic enhancements. "I feel good. Very blessed and happy to be able to get back out there without any problems," Green reflected on his physical state following a victorious game against the Utah Jazz. However, agility isn't the only aspect where Green is excelling. His defensive play has also captured attention, notably for his innovative adaptation to the Phoenix Suns' defense-first strategy under coach Jordan Ott. This approach contrasts with the Houston Rockets' focus, emphasizing the importance of transitioning from defense to offense smoothly, which Green has embraced. Even amidst occasional inefficiencies, such as a recent shooting slump when Booker was injured, Green's commitment to improving his skills remains unwavering. His resolve in shooting the ball confidently and steadily seeking higher quality opportunities has started bearing fruit. Ott emphasizes Green's all-around gameplay and defensive prowess, acknowledging the extensive pressure he exerts on opponents. "Just his intent, offensively, but he can put a lot of pressure on the rim," Ott remarked. "I thought really in that second half, when it was coming out of halftime, kind of up in the air, and then he put his just imprint all over this game." With eight crucial games left in the regular season, Green is eager to continue this upward trajectory, aiming to lead his team into the play-in tournament. Even as players like Mark Williams and Dillon Brooks are on the mend, Green's current form promises exciting possibilities for the Suns' near future.
