In a distressing incident that has unsettled the community of San Jose, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting two Israeli-American men in a potential antisemitic hate crime. The suspects, Ramon Akoyans, 18, Roma Akoyans, 20, and Bruneil Chamaki, 32, turned themselves in to the authorities after the violent incident at a popular dining establishment. The altercation occurred outside the Augustine restaurant on Santana Row and gained public attention after a video of the attack appeared online. The disturbing footage shows the suspects continuously attacking one of the men, initially knocking him unconscious, and then targeting the second victim, allegedly using antisemitic slurs during the assault. Eyewitnesses and the victims reported that the attackers, who were wearing black shirts, started the confrontation when the men were waiting for their table reservation. Despite the rapid escalation of violence, the incident took place in a busy area, which provided multiple witness accounts that have supported the investigation. The local Jewish community has expressed their upset and worry over the attack, with Daniel Klein from Jewish Silicon Valley condemning the violence and calling for increased awareness and protection for community members. In response to community concerns and the gravity of the allegations, the San Jose Police have committed to a thorough investigation. They are working with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and have promised to robustly seek justice for the victims and tackle the worrying nature of antisemitic violence. The District Attorney’s office has noted that more details will soon be released, outlining charges and any forthcoming legal prosecutions. Meanwhile, community leaders are calling for solidarity and vigilance, reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy towards hate crimes and advocating for unity following this disturbing occurrence.
