In a somber development, Texas resident Eric Renee Enriquez, 50, is now charged with murder following the deadly shooting of his ex-wife’s boyfriend, George A. Turrubiartez, 54. This incident occurred in Hewitt, a peaceful suburb of Waco, on the night of February 5th. According to reports, the tranquility of Saddle Horn Drive was shattered by the sound of at least 10 gunshots, prompting an emergency response at approximately 9 p.m. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the lifeless body of Turrubiartez in the driveway; he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal one to the head. Enriquez, found inside the home, emerged with his hands raised and claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that the victim had threatened him. Investigations unveiled a complex narrative. Court documents indicate that Turrubiartez, angered by a text exchange between Enriquez and his ex-wife, intended to confront Enriquez at his home. Enriquez reportedly received provocative messages from Turrubiartez, which led to the confrontation captured via Enriquez's surveillance camera. Believing an altercation was unavoidable, Enriquez armed himself and reportedly shot Turrubiartez after an exchange of words. Post-shooting, Enriquez reportedly disarmed the weapon, described as an 'assault rifle,' placing it on the couch. He later claimed a right to defend himself when questioned by the police, even telling them he would react similarly under the same circumstances. Despite the self-defense claim, arrest warrants depict a scenario of premeditated hostility. Enriquez remains jailed with a $750,000 bond while his defense team prepares to argue his case in court, anticipating a challenging legal battle over his assertion of self-defense.
