Florence, known for its rich history and culinary scene, has welcomed a new gem on its southeast side: Busy Bee Subs. Offering a wide variety of dishes such as pasta, pizza, wings, hot and cold subs, and more, the restaurant is quickly becoming a local favorite. Every week, patrons can enjoy a selection of specials that change to highlight unique options, keeping the menu fresh and exciting. The heart of Busy Bee Subs lies in its recipes, many of which are steeped in history. Suzanne Fitzpatrick, the owner and culinary force behind the restaurant, has crafted a menu inspired by family traditions and her Massachusetts roots. "A majority of my recipes are handed down from my parents and grandparents," Fitzpatrick shared. "These meals hold memories and flavors from 90 to 100 years ago." Patrons can indulge in an array of menu items like fish tacos, buffalo chicken pizza, and New England Clam Chowder, as well as the eponymous subs including options like chicken parmesan and bang bang shrimp. Central to Fitzpatrick's ethos is a commitment to freshness. Each day, she personally slices steak for the sandwiches, ensuring that no pre-cooked ingredients make their way into her kitchen. "This is not your typical fast food. Everything we prepare is fresh, homemade," Fitzpatrick emphasized. While Fitzpatrick heads the kitchen, she is supported by James "LJ" Gowen, whose culinary talents are evident in the dishes. Fitzpatrick sees a promising future for him as he plans to attend a culinary arts program, further honing his skills. The ambiance of Busy Bee Subs harkens back to a beloved pizza restaurant from Fitzpatrick's childhood in Lawrence, Massachusetts. "I have fond memories of that place, its vibrant energy, and I aspired to create a similar environment," Fitzpatrick reminisced. With its inviting decor—vivid yellow walls, a Pac-Man arcade game, a pool table, and cheerful bee-themed decorations—Busy Bee Subs is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. "I envisioned a place where families could bring their kids, where elders and young adults could all feel at home," Fitzpatrick said. Busy Bee Subs, it seems, has achieved just that, crafting not just meals but community experiences.
