In a significant leadership change, Eugene A. Puhopek, previously a city planner in Enfield, Connecticut, has taken up the mantle as the new executive director of the Hampshire Community Action Commission in Northampton. This change follows the departure of F. Austin Miller, who has transitioned to the role of comptroller for the federal Housing Allowance Program in Springfield. Concurrent to this administrative shuffle, the local retail scene has witnessed a notable change. The Vermont Store, a charming novelty shop located at 192 Main St., has been acquired by David A. and Marjorie A. Johnston of Southampton. The couple purchased the store from Neil A. Soutra and his wife Marion, who also own Dwyers’ Florists, a nearby business. These transitions mark a period of dynamic change in both community services and local commerce, reflecting an evolving landscape in the heart of Northampton.
