By JAMES ROBSON MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United soared to third place in the Premier League on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Benjamin Sesko's seventh goal in eight games sealed the win at Old Trafford, placing United above Aston Villa due to superior goal difference. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Tottenham's winless streak extended to 10 matches following a 2-1 defeat at Fulham, keeping them embroiled in a relegation battle. Nottingham Forest also failed to distance themselves from the relegation zone after a 2-1 loss at Brighton. League leaders Arsenal were set to host sixth-place Chelsea later on Sunday. Carrick Outshines Glasner United's latest victory boosted their push to return to the Champions League and strengthened Michael Carrick's case for a permanent managerial role. Carrick has remained unbeaten since receiving a contract until the end of the season in January, with a record of six wins in seven matches. His cause was bolstered by defeating a Palace side led by Oliver Glasner, who was initially a frontrunner to take over the position when United dismissed Ruben Amorim earlier this year. Glasner, having won the FA Cup with Palace last season, will be a free agent at the end of the current campaign. When Maxence Lacroix headed Palace into an early lead in the fourth minute, Glasner seemed poised for a decisive victory in front of the United board. However, Carrick has instilled a tenacity in his team in a short span, and United drew level in the 57th minute after Lacroix fouled Matheus Cunha in the area and was sent off for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and converted the penalty for his seventh goal of the season. Sesko, who has been scoring regularly as a substitute for United in recent weeks, was given a starting opportunity and delivered with a powerful header in the 65th minute for the win. Tottenham's Troubles Deepen Tottenham remains without a league victory in 2026 after new coach Igor Tudor, from Croatia, faced consecutive defeats in his first two games in charge. The Spurs have matched their longest winless run in the Premier League, equaling a record dating back to 1994, according to Opta. Following last week's 4-1 drubbing by North London rivals Arsenal, Tottenham suffered another defeat to Fulham. First-half goals from Welshman Harry Wilson and Nigerian Alex Iwobi gave Fulham a 2-0 halftime lead. Brazilian Richarlison pulled one back for Tottenham in the second half. Tottenham sits in 16th place, four points and two spots above the relegation zone with 10 games remaining. Nottingham Forest is in 17th, with a two-point cushion after their defeat at Brighton. Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira became Forest's fourth manager of the season when he was hired last month, but he has endured two straight league defeats.
