News - Yerevan police detain opposition MP

The police took Mher Melkonyan, an MP of the opposition Armenia Faction of the National Assembly, into custody a little while ago in Yerevan. Although the people there told the police that the person being detained is a representative of the legislative body of Armenia, the police car moved and took this lawmaker away. Since this morning, numerous opposition activists have been carrying out actions of civil disobedience in the Armenian capital. Large-scale protests have started in Yerevan amid the latest Azerbaijani military aggression unleashed against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on Tuesday. People demand an answer from the Armenian authorities for their inaction in the Artsakh issue. Everyone emphasizes that there is genocide in Artsakh today, and therefore immediate action must be taken.
