Karabakh situation doesn’t have much impact on Russia checkpoints’ activities at Azerbaijan, Georgia borders

by Lilit Sept. 22, 2023

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh did not have a significant impact on the activities of the Russian checkpoints on the borders with Azerbaijan and Georgia. Ruslan Davydov, the Acting Director of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, told reporters about this, TASS reports. "In terms of goods circulation, we see certain fluctuations in flows between the Upper Lars [border] of the Russian-Georgian border, and the Russian-Azerbaijani border; we have three checkpoints there," Davydov said in response to reporters' questions. "However, in our opinion, these fluctuations are related to the logistics of goods circulation, to Turkish transit, as most of Turkish transit goes to the countries of Central Asia through this border. In general, the situation at the checkpoint has not changed in connection with the escalation of the conflict [in Nagorno-Karabakh]. In the last 24 hours, a slightly higher than average—1,200—trucks have crossed the Upper Lars, so we are working steadily."
