Residents of Vail Village are on edge due to rumors regarding ICE operations.

by Lilit Jan. 23, 2026

Rumors spread rapidly through Vail Village of potential U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities targeting the area on a tense Wednesday night, resulting in a ripple of unease that saw businesses closing early and some choosing to remain shuttered on Thursday. The whispers of ICE presence intensified fear among locals and businesses alike, despite no verifiable sightings or interactions being reported to local authorities. Vail Town Manager Russ Forrest emphasized, “We’re not aware of any ICE activity or federal law enforcement activity that occurred in the town of Vail last night or yesterday.” The uncertainty stemmed from broader incidents across Eagle County, igniting anxiety reminiscent of national stories where similar rumors have disrupted community peace. Mayor Barry Davis responded to a deluge of calls from worried residents through Wednesday night and Thursday morning, reinforcing the town's commitment to remaining a place of safety and guidance. “Unfortunately, we’re not different than other places in the United States, where there is fear,” said Forrest, urging residents to lean on local resources. Both town officials and the Vail Police Department encouraged community members to reach out directly should they seek clarity or assistance. The police department continues to offer support through a dedicated line at (970) 479-2200, ensuring all concerns are acknowledged and handled with care. As Vail navigates the aftermath of these unsubstantiated rumors, the focus remains on providing accurate information and maintaining the tranquility the town is known for, underscoring their readiness to answer any calls for help or information from their constituents.
