In a significant development, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced the impending first-ever trilateral talks involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine, scheduled to occur in the UAE within the next 48 hours. This announcement came during Zelensky's address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, a strategic surprise given his prior intention to focus on domestic affairs. Zelensky revealed that an American delegation is set to visit Moscow soon, having awaited a recent meeting between him and President Trump. Following this, a delegation from Ukraine will join them for discussions in the UAE. His statements, however, omitted any direct mention of Russia’s engagement in these negotiations. While neither Moscow nor Washington has officially confirmed these 'imminent' discussions, the United Arab Emirates has yet to release any statements regarding hosting the event. This development aligns with President Trump's past ambitions of initiating dialogue between the nations to mitigate ongoing tensions. The proposition of trilateral dialogue has been a recurrent theme in attempts by U.S. leadership under President Trump to bring about peaceful negotiations. Trump's comments last August on a potential meeting with Russian and Ukrainian leaders were met with Russo-scepticism but underlined his administration’s interest in resolving hostilities. Although Moscow has favored direct talks between Putin and Zelensky as a culmination of successful negotiations, this move may represent a significant step toward achieving peace.
