Bulgaria Deepens Diplomatic Ties with Armenia

by Lilit Dec. 23, 2025

In Yerevan, a significant diplomatic event unfolded as Bulgaria's new ambassador to Armenia, Nikola Nikolov, officially began his tenure by presenting his credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan. This ceremony marks a renewed commitment to bolstering the historically strong ties between Bulgaria and Armenia, focusing on expanding cooperation across multiple domains. President Khachaturyan expressed optimism about this new phase in Bulgaria-Armenia relations, emphasizing the longstanding cultural, economic, and political bonds shared by the two nations. He welcomed Ambassador Nikolov warmly, congratulating him on his appointment and articulating hopes for the further development of bilateral synergies. Key issues on the agenda included enhancing economic interactions and cultural exchanges. Both parties discussed potential collaborations in various sectors such as technology, education, and sustainable development, aiming to foster greater business opportunities and cultural understanding. A significant highlight of the dialogue was the discussion about reinstating direct flights between Bulgaria and Armenia. Both countries see the revival of this air link as a strategic move to promote trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections, making travel and economic exchange more efficient and fruitful. Beyond bilateral relations, the conversation also touched on cooperation within the European Union. Ambassador Nikolov reaffirmed Bulgaria's support for Armenia's initiatives within EU frameworks, aiming to strengthen Armenia's integration and contribution to EU policies and projects. Moreover, upcoming international events hosted by Armenia, such as the European Political Community summit and the UN COP-17 conference, were discussed as platforms for further enhancing collaboration. Both parties recognized these events as opportunities to jointly address global challenges such as climate change, environmental conservation, and regional security. The meeting concluded on a positive note, setting a promising course for the strengthened Bulgaria-Armenia partnership. There is mutual enthusiasm for continuing their work together to achieve shared goals at both the bilateral and international levels.
