With the inception of the North-South Brunswick-Monroe (NSM) tri-op, South Brunswick's ice hockey team has become a formidable contender in the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC). Previously part of the Monroe Falcons and reigning champions, these players bring their winning dynamics to the forefront of the game, adapting quickly to their new yellow and black jerseys. As the season unfolds, NSM is making headlines with an undefeated 4-0 record in conference play. Their recent 4-1 victory over Woodbridge-Colonia-Iselin Kennedy (Woodbridge Twp.) at ProSkate underscores the profound impact of the Monroe team's integration. Matt DePalma was instrumental, scoring twice and assisting two more goals, exemplifying the Falcons' seamless transition into South Brunswick's dynamic. Michael DelPrete, another key player from Monroe, mirrored DePalma’s stellar performance, contributing two goals and two assists. The synergy between these players and their new colleagues is propelling the team to new heights. South Brunswick has historically struggled to climb the GMC ranks. However, the inclusion of twelve Monroe skaters is rapidly changing its trajectory. The last significant achievement for the team was finishing above .500 in the 2018-19 season. Now, the dynamic NSM tri-op is leading the conference standings. During the match, NSM took an early advantage, securing a 2-0 lead before Woodbridge Twp. managed to score a single goal. Evan Shubert's swift response followed Michael DelPrete’s second goal. Despite Woodbridge Twp.'s efforts, NSM maintained its dominance, bolstered by Tristan Muniz, who showcased impressive defensive skills by stopping 21 out of 22 shots on goal. This season promises a thrilling ride for NSM as they aim to uphold Monroe's legacy and carve out a new era of success for the South Brunswick team.
