Ex-Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been detained by police, arrested and booked in Washtenaw County Jail, according to court record. The Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 10, that officers responded to a call on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. for an alleged assault investigation. Police did not share much information, but said "a suspect in this case was taken into custody," while also adding the incident didn't appear to be random. "At this time, the investigation is ongoing," Pittsfield Township Police said in a statement. "Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible." According to police, the incident occurred at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Michigan announced that Moore had been fired in an email to the media at 4:43 p.m. Moore was booked at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, and as of 9:40 p.m. was still in custody. Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN's Dan Wetzel reported police in Saline, Michigan "assisted in locating and detaining Moore" and turned it over to Pittsfield Township for an investigation into potential charges. BACKSTORY: Sherrone Moore fired by Michigan over inappropriate relationship The news comes after Moore was fired for cause earlier Wednesday after a Michigan investigation allegedly found "credible evidence" that "Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member." There are no public details about the inappropriate relationship Moore was involved in that Michigan fired him for. According to his University of Michigan profile, Moore married his wife, Kelli, in 2015. The couple has three daughters. In light of his firing, Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach. Poggi was the interim coach for the Wolverines earlier this season when Moore served a university-imposed suspension for games against Central Michigan and Nebraska for his role in the Connor Stalions sign-stealing saga.
