YEREVAN, December 9. /ARKA/ German companies are expanding their interest in Armenia, as the region and Armenia are important as a hub between Asia and Europe, said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. "It is necessary to use the potential that exists in our countries. For this, a framework, peace, the rule of law and competition are needed. German companies are known for conducting a thorough analysis of the environment before investing. For SMEs, it is very easy to invest in a distant country, but they are reliable and trustworthy partners if they see the framework conditions in a particular country," he emphasized. Therefore, as Merz noted, the reforms taking place in Armenia are very important. "They are complex; we know this from our German experience, and we are confident that all this will bear fruit," he said. The German Chancellor also noted that the two countries cooperate in all spheres. "Universities and cities interact. The Goethe-Institut will open in Yerevan. In Germany, several TUMO centers are opening, where young people in a creative format become acquainted with innovative technologies," he said. According to ArmStat, the trade turnover between Armenia and Germany for the first ten months of 2025 amounted to $386.5 million, down 4.1% compared with the ten months of 2024. Exports rose by 80.6%, exceeding $93 million, while imports from the exporting country fell by 11.4% to $327.9 million.
