Armenian News Details Preliminary investigation into 16 defendants in a criminal case regarding the provision of bribes for construction permits has been completed 13-11-2025 19:44:31 | Armenia | Press Release The preliminary investigation conducted as part of a criminal proceeding initiated as a result of operational and investigative measures carried out by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia has established that a person occupying the post of head of the relevant subdivision of the Ararat Municipality in Ararat Province, acting in the interests of multiple bribe givers, and in order to unobtrusively organize the process of issuing the necessary construction permits, during 2023-2024, as bribes, received varying sums of money with the assistance of the director of a company engaged in design activities, amounts ranging from 100,000 to 190,000 Armenian drams in each case. This information is provided by the Anti-Corruption Committee. Specifically, the preliminary investigation found that the mentioned municipal official, taking advantage of documents previously provided by the director of the aforementioned company, prepared designs for building residential houses and submitted them for approval by the latter; on this basis, construction permits were issued to residents of various settlements of Ararat Province in exchange for bribes. The Ararat Municipality official has been charged with accepting bribes under Article 435, Part 1 (Clause 13) of the Armenian Criminal Code. He has been placed under house arrest as a preventive measure. The director of the LLC that assisted the official has been charged under Article 46-435, Part 1 (Clause 14) of the Armenian Criminal Code. During the investigation, charges were also brought against 14 other individuals for paying and mediating bribes. The investigation into the above-mentioned 16 defendants has been completed. The materials of the case have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor with a view to confirming the indictment and sending to court for consideration. Notice: A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Armenian Criminal Procedure Code by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
