Will Macklin Celebrini crack Canada’s Olympic roster?

by Lilit Oct. 24, 2025

It may have taken the Sharks seven games to get their first win, but there’s no denying that Celebrini is on a tear, now with five goals and six assists for 11 points. Beyond the success of San Jose in 2025-26, some are wondering if the 2024 No. 1 overall pick may have a shot at cracking the Canadian National Men’s Team for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss the factors that may go into Celebrini having a shot at making Team Canada. Tyler Yaremchuk: Listen, it might be recency bias, because five points certainly makes your stat line look better on the season. But man, I think there’s a world where Celebrini goes to Milan for the Olympics this February. Carter Hutton: I think with his skating ability and how he can play anywhere in your lineup, it makes him a threat. I think that’s where Team Canada and Team USA get very tricky, because what role are you going to be in? This was the argument last year with the 4 Nations, because some of the players named to that team like Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett, guys who can play anywhere in your lineup. When I look at Celebrini and his skating ability and his defensive ability, for such a young player, being a versatile threat is going to be important in a short tournament where you need that energy. Again, it’s a bit of a stretch and it’s still early, but I’d like to see him in the conversation. You can watch the full segment and the rest of the episode here…
