Facebook's New Feature Can Scan Your Camera Roll to Tell You What to Post

by Lilit Oct. 17, 2025

If you've ever spent too long searching for the perfect photo to include in your Facebook post, this new feature is for you. Facebook is rolling out a tool that suggests photos and videos from your camera roll. The suggestions will appear in your Stories and Feed, and it can also suggest different ways to edit or collage photos. It's available now for Facebook users in the US and Canada, Meta confirmed exclusively to CNET. The company says it will begin testing this feature in more countries in the coming months. Don't miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source. When the feature was in testing earlier this year, privacy-minded Facebook users raised concerns that Meta would have access to their entire camera roll and might use that content for AI training. Meta says that's not how it works. The feature requires you to opt in—meaning Meta can't see all your photos and videos unless you give it permission. The company won't use those photos to train Meta AI unless you use its editing tools, according to Meta's privacy policy. Read more: Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses Review: Halfway to the Future. Here's how you can opt in to getting these post suggestions: Open your Facebook app and tap Menu in the bottom right corner. Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner. You can also scroll down to Settings & privacy and then navigate to Settings. Tap Camera roll sharing suggestions. Scroll to Get creative ideas made for you by allowing camera roll cloud processing. Your decision: If you don't want Meta's AI feature to access your camera roll, leave it alone and make sure the toggle icon is gray and shows a circle to the left. If this icon is blue and you see the toggle circle to the right, that means you've turned the feature on. You'll tap this toggle icon to turn the feature on or off. Facebook has had an extremely busy few months. The platform recently updated its algorithm to prioritize newer, fresher Reels. It also introduced friend bubbles, similar to Instagram now, and an AI-powered search tool that highlights popular search queries at the bottom of popular videos. You can also see local job postings on Facebook, thanks to a revival of a 2022 feature. Meta also said that it will begin using your AI chats and interactions to personalize your ads beginning in December.
