In the near future, as a matter of fact, Armenia and Azerbaijan will officially notify about the entry into force of the regulation of border delimitation commissions of each other. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced this during Thursday’s debates on the 2025 state budget draft at the joint meeting of the standing committees of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia. Also, Mirzoyan expressed a hope that the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation work will continue during the rest of 2024 and in 2025. Speaking about the peace treaty expected to be signed with Azerbaijan, the Armenian FM said that the last proposal from the Armenian side was to speed up this process and to sign the agreed points in order to have a significant result in the form of signing as soon as possible. "Judging by the public reactions of the Azerbaijani side, during the contacts, it was not received with great enthusiasm by the Azerbaijani side. Now we have an understanding that there is one or two more wording, on which we will continue the work; this also is a normal negotiation process. I was recently accused at the NA of often expressing cautious optimism. But I can't but use these words. I have to express cautious optimism that in the near future we will also manage to reach an agreement on that one or two wording, after which the treaty will be ready for signing," said the Armenian FM. He considered the Azerbaijani side's claim that Armenia's constitution contains a certain territorial claim against Azerbaijan. "We consider that theory completely unfounded. We have the decision of the Constitutional Court [of Armenia] as a very powerful proof [of this]. In its decision regarding the compliance of the [aforesaid] regulation with the constitution [of Armenia], the Constitutional Court recorded that the delimitation of the borders based on the Almaty Declaration [of 1991] is fully consistent with Armenia's constitution, which means that the delimitation stipulated by the Almaty Declaration is constitutional, Armenia does not have any territorial claims beyond those borders. This comes to dispel all possible concerns of that kind," said Mirzoyan.
