Armenia seeks to strengthen its air defense through possible cooperation with India, reports the Indian Defense Research Wing. This involves upgrading Armenia’s existing fleet of four Su-30 СМ fighters to the Indian Super-30 configuration. This upgrade involves the integration of advanced Indian weapons and technologies, including the Astra Mk1 air-to-air missile, RudraM air-to-surface missiles, the Uttam active electronically scanned array radar, and an Indian flight computer. Replacing the original Russian PESA radar with the Uttam radar will considerably improve the detection and targeting capabilities of the Armenian Su-30СМ. The second potential area of cooperation assumes that Armenia will directly buy Su-30MKI fighter jets from India. A possible deal for these fighters would likely involve the same Super-30 configuration. This development will mean increased confidence in Indian defense technology and will open up opportunities for future defense cooperation between India and Armenia. The success of the modernization program and possible new purchases will depend on negotiations between India and Armenia. If the talks are completed, the cooperation between the two countries could set a precedent for future defense deals.
