Lawyers for former Artsakh Republic state minister Ruben Vardanyan, who is currently being illegally imprisoned in Azerbaijan, filed lawsuits in Baku on Thursday, saying he was tortured and deprived of his right to a speedy trial, Reuters reported.Vardanyan's lawyers said one of the cases related to his treatment constituted torture during a hunger strike he went on in April 2024. They said that in response, Vardaniyan was placed in a holding cell, forced to stand, forbidden to bathe and deprived of water for two days.In another lawsuit, Vardanyan's lawyers said his right to a speedy trial was violated because of his detention since last year.In a separate lawsuit, charges were brought against the Russian-language Azerbaijani newspaper "Baku Worker," which spread libel against Ruben Vardanyan.In their statement, Ruben Vardanyan's lawyers also called on Azerbaijan to release all Karabakh Armenian prisoners held in the country before the start of the POR29 summit.
