No one rules out that a decision to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may be made by Armenia. Alen Simonyan, speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, stated this while speaking with reporters in the NA Monday. "No one rules [it] out; the CSTO is doing everything for it. The same in connection with the [trilateral] statement of November 9, [2020]. I do not think that Armenia should withdraw its signature from that statement. I believe that Azerbaijan and Russia have something to answer to Armenia regarding items 1 to 8 of the November 9 document, and Armenia fulfills its obligations regarding item 9. Armenia's commitments are also based on the 9th point and the entire document in the logic of the Crossroads of Peace [project of Armenia]," said Simonyan. Regarding the remark that Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that it is not in the interest of Armenia's people not to return and actively participate in CSTO events, Alen Simonyan first said that he did not want to comment on Zakharova, then added: "I believe that speaking with Armenia in the language of threats is a very wrong logic. That is, I want to understand that they are talking to Armenia in the language of threats, and they think that the Armenians should think that otherwise, they will attack us through Azerbaijanis? We've seen it one way or another. We [i.e. Armenia] have been in the CSTO, but we witnessed attacks on Armenia through another country. They gave the impression that nothing is happening." Also, Alen Simonyan claimed that there was no anti-Russian campaign in Armenia. "Let me ask one more thing. If I attack you and you resist me, will it be an anti-Alen campaign? That is, should we [i.e. Armenia] have relaxed and enjoy ourselves?" noted Simonyan, but asked not to consider what he said directly.
