The Ukrainian armed forces control 100 settlements in Russia's Kursk Region, assured Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "We [i.e. the Ukrainian army] continue to move forward, causing considerable losses of manpower and equipment to the Russian troops. Today, we have taken control of 1,294 square kilometers of territory and 100 settlements," Syrskyi said UNIAN reports. According to him, the Ukrainian army has captured about 600 Russian soldiers. The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the Russian army had planned an attack towards Ukraine from Kursk. According to him, the goal of the Ukrainian military is the creation of a safe zone, the protection of the facilities of Sumy Region in Ukraine, and the cessation of shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory. "The enemy [i.e. Russia] is trying to resist us, it is directing its troops in other directions, thereby weakening them and trying to create a defense ring around our attacking unit, it is planning counter-offensive operations," Syrskyi emphasized. The commander-in-chief added that the future actions of the Ukrainian army will depend on the situation at the front.
