Residents of Japan have observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, which was carried out by the US 79 years ago. The main commemoration ceremony took place in the center of Hiroshima, at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. A minute of silence was announced across Japan at 8:15am local time—the time of the aforesaid atomic bombing on August 6, 1945.
