Baku continues to insist that a peace treaty with Yerevan will not be signed without amending the constitution of Armenia, or rather, without removing the mention of the Declaration of Independence from the constitution, reports RFE/RL. This document contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbekov, an Azerbaijani presidential envoy for special assignments, told RFE/RL. Moreover, the high-ranking Azerbaijani official claimed that this is the only obstacle to the peace process with Armenia at the moment. Azerbaijan want to be sure that the peace treaty with Armenia will make impossible any return to revanchism or any territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the future, said Amirbekov. It is unacceptable for Azerbaijan that Armenia views the peace negotiations and the final signing of the treaty as a tactic to buy time in order to strengthen its military potential and start this story anew, he added.
