About forty museums in France, including the Grand Palais and the Louvre, have fallen victims to a cyberattack, the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) has informed, reports BFMTV. ANSSI added, however, that this incident does not affect the information systems involved in the current Paris Olympic and upcoming Paralympic Games. The Paris prosecutor's office said that on August 4, "the cybercrime department (J3) was informed of an attack on the information system of the Grand Palais, which concentrates the data of about forty museums for the purpose of extorting a ransom." The incident is being investigated. Ransomware is malicious software that infiltrates computer systems, collects data, and then hides it behind a layer of protection. Cybercriminals usually demand a ransom in exchange for the return of data, or not to disclose them.
