Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in part: It became known to Zhoghovurd daily that on February 1 of this year, the court made a decision in the case on RA citizen Samvel Shirinyan, who desecrated the attributes of the RF flag [in Yerevan]. Samvel Shirinyan was found guilty of committing the crime provided for in Article 329, Section 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and he was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment. [But] by the application of Article 84 of the RA Criminal Code, the punishment in the form of imprisonment imposed on Samvel Shirinyan was not applied conditionally, setting a probationary period of 3 years. As it is known, the head of the Russian House in Armenia, Vadim Fefilov, had petitioned to the RA Prosecutor General in the case on the disrespectful incident towards the monument in Yerevan dedicated to the memory of the children who died during the Siege of Leningrad. ArmLur.am had reported that Samvel Shirinyan had been found at the Bagratashen checkpoint [on Armenia’s border with Georgia]; he had wanted to cross the RA border, but the law enforcement officers had managed to prevent his escape.
