The Spanish Civil Guard has stopped the activities of an international criminal group that was involved in the importation of large quantities of cocaine through the Port of Barcelona and some other European ports, according to a press release of the Spanish law enforcement agencies. According to their information, in 2023, the police started an investigation against a Spanish company that transported containers of rice from Paraguay to the capital. During one of the inspections, the Civil Guard found more than 4 tons of cocaine hidden in rice sacks. This is the largest shipment of this drug confiscated at the Port of Barcelona to date. During this operation, 10 members of the group were arrested. As part of the investigation, Paraguayan police also seized approximately 3.3 tons of cocaine. In addition, back in March, police had confiscated 2.1 tons of drugs in the UK.
