US Vice President Kamala Harris said that soon she intends to officially accept the proposal to run in the upcoming presidential elections from the Democratic Party. Harris' respective statement was publicized by the press service of her election headquarters on Monday evening. The US vice president confirmed that she "secured the broad support needed to become our party's nominee.” Earlier, AP reported that by Monday evening, 2,538 delegates to the Democratic Party's upcoming convention had expressed their support for Harris' candidacy. To win the party’s nomination, a challenger must secure the support of at least 1,976 delegates. "I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon," Harris said. Earlier Monday, The New York Times, citing Democratic National Committee chair Jaime Harrison, reported that the Democratic Party's presidential nominee will be decided by virtual voting by August 7. Current US President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he will not run for reelection as the head of state in November, and expressed support for the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party candidate for this position.
