Voting on the nomination of US Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate from the Democratic Party in the presidential election is expected on August 1, CBS journalist Ed O'Keefe reported on Sunday. Delegates to the Democratic National Convention were told during a phone call on Sunday to prepare for the vote to take place on August 1st, O'Keefe told the network. He explained that the voting would be in a virtual format, and it is expected that Harris will be officially declared a candidate in the elections from the Democratic Party. Thus, Harris' candidacy may be confirmed ahead of the national party convention in Chicago, Illinois, scheduled for August 19-22. According to O'Keefe, those who may not like the idea of Harris's nomination only have about 10 days left to say no and challenge her. He also noted that the data on possible voting dates are still unofficial. The Politico newspaper reports that some American officials and Democratic donors are calling on independent Senator Joe Manchin (from West Virginia), who was a member of the Democratic Party until May of this year, to return to the party and seek the nomination as a presidential candidate. At the same time, Reuters writes, citing sources, that the heads of regional headquarters of the US Democratic Party in all 50 states support the nomination of Harris as a candidate for the election.
