As a result of negotiations between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, from July 15, 2024, the AR Embassy in IRI resumed its activity at a new address. The ambassador and the current staff of the embassy returned to Iran. APA informs that this was reported by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.The Iranian side, as a country of accreditation, in accordance with its obligation to ensure security within the framework of the "Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations", has implemented appropriate measures to ensure diplomatic security in front of the new building of the AR Embassy. On the morning of January 27, 2023, an armed attack was carried out on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran. The attacker, armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, broke through the guard post and killed the head of the security service, two security officers of the embassy were wounded. The perpetrator of the attack, Yasin Huseynzadeh, was detained. After the terrorist attack the activity of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran was suspended. Huseynzadeh was sentenced to death.
