NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has opposed the proposal to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine that fly towards Poland. Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities came up with this idea, while the Polish government said that it was considering such an option. On Sunday night, a Ukrainian TV marathon showed an interview with Stoltenberg in which the NATO secretary general was asked about the proposal. He responded by saying, "NATO's policy remains unchanged. We will not take part in this conflict, we will not be part of the conflict. So we support Ukraine in destroying Russian airplanes, but NATO will not be directly involved." Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said this week during a speech in Washington that Warsaw was pondering whether to support Kiev's idea, which is enshrined in a security agreement recently concluded between the two countries."At this stage it is only an idea. Our agreement says we will think about it," Sikorski said. The Polish foreign minister noted that some Russian missiles launched from the St. Petersburg area at targets near Lviv flew through Belarus, entered Polish airspace for 40 seconds and then turned toward Ukraine.
