Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Friday received a US congressional delegation led by Senator Roger Wicker, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. The interlocutors discussed the agenda of Armenia-US political dialogue, and regional developments. "Recently, we [i.e. Armenia] have formed an active dialogue with the US at various levels, and it is very important that about a month ago we made a joint decision to raise the level of our cooperation to a strategic partnership," stressed the Armenian FM. Mirzoyan added that the development of Armenia-US cooperation is also aimed at strengthening Armenia's resilience, which the Armenian side highly values. At the meeting, reference was made to the process of democratic reforms in Armenia and the significant progress recorded in that regard, as well as the ongoing challenges facing the democratic development of the country in the conditions of current geopolitical developments. Regional security issues were also discussed. In this connection, the FM presented Armenia's vision for establishing stability and long-term peace in the South Caucasus, including the normalization of the country’s relations with its neighbors. In the context of the ongoing processes with Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuity of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation process based on the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 and signing the negotiated peace treaty with Azerbaijan. The interlocutors reflected also on the need for the unblocking of regional channels, as well as humanitarian issues. In addition, the FM and the visiting US Congress members exchanged views on Armenia's foreign policy and some other matters of mutual interest.
