Armenia's civil society has played a very important role in the developments that have taken place in terms of the spread of democracy in Armenia. US ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien stated this at the Armenian Forum for Democracy on Monday. The American diplomat noted that although Armenia has faced challenges, including border incidents and the influx of Nagorno-Karabakh refugees, it has remained committed to a democratic future. Kvien added that they aim to renew the Armenia-US strategic dialogue in the coming years, and expressed a hope that this cooperation will strengthen Armenia's sovereignty. The American diplomat noted that they do not want Armenia to be perfect in recognizing human rights, as the US is not perfect either, but they continue to work together to create a world where democracy develops. The US ambassador expressed a hope that the current—third—Armenian Forum for Democracy also will recognize Armenia's progress in securing democracy.
