Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, supporters are outside Armenia interior ministry

by Lilit May 29, 2024

The leader of the Tavush for the Homeland movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, arrived in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, with his supporters. The participants of this movement demand a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vahe Ghazaryan. A little while ago, the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, approached Archbishop Galstanyan, and told him that Ghazaryan is currently in meetings and cannot receive them. "Our target is not the minister of internal affairs. There is someone in our country who disturbs the harmony of our life, steals our homeland in a physical sense," said Archbishop Galstanyan, implying PM Nikol Pashinyan. The people, together with Archbishop Galstanyan, want to meet with Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan to get answers to their questions. Galstanyan hopes that Ghazaryan will behave like a man and not avoid a talk. "Our demand is that you go down now and answer, in front of so many people, for what you have done," Archbishop Galstanyan stated addressing the interior minister. The protests and civil disobedience actions, led by the Tavush for the Homeland movement, started in Armenia after it became known on April 19 that Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to start border delimitation at Tavush Province of Armenia. Leading a respective march of protest from Tavush to Yerevan on May 9, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of this movement and then Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church, called on PM Nikol Pashinyan to resign.
