News - Russia Federal Security Service chief: West is trying to create conditions for ‘color revolutions’ in CIS countries

Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, believes that the West is trying to create conditions for "color revolutions" in the CIS countries. He said this at the meeting of the council of heads of security agencies and special services of the CIS member states, in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. According to the head of the Russian intelligence, the Western centers are forming "governments in exile" in order to seize power in the event of a deterioration of the situation and mass unrest in the CIS countries. He accused the western players of creating conditions for internal crises, adding that agents of influence, controlled opposition parties and movements, non-profit organizations, and fake independent media are used for this purpose. Also, according to Bortnikov, the US and the UK, under the guise of sanctions on Russia’s partners, want to establish complete control over trade and financial transactions in the CIS territory, so that they can disrupt the economy of any country. The military, political, and economic pressures on the CIS countries and the imposition of various formats of cooperation in the defense sector also continue, he added. Bortnikov noted that regional conflicts are fueled from outside, creating favorable conditions for feeding international terrorist organizations. To note, Armenia also is a member in the CIS.
