Japan dog Kabosu, Doge internet meme prototype, dies aged 19

by Lilit May 24, 2024

Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog who became the prototype for the Doge internet meme, has died in Japan at the age of 19, its owner announced on her blog. The owner of this dog added that the last farewell to this canine will be held on Sunday. Kabosu was born in 2005. It came to the volunteers after the breeder whose house it lived in went bankrupt. It was found at a stray dog charity center by its owner, who started writing a blog about her pets in 2009. Since around 2010, Kabosu has become the prototype of Doge internet memes. The volunteers gave it the name Kabosu, presumably because it face resembles a citrus "kabosu" in its usual round shape.
