News - Deputy FM: There are still differences in Armenia, Azerbaijan positions

Armenia is ready to sign and implement an agreement on the normalization of relations and peace with Azerbaijan, and work is being carried out in this regard. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan told about this to reporters on Thursday. As for Azerbaijan, there are still differences of positions on the issues that have been discussed so far and on which no written agreement has been reached, Kostanyan added. "The work continues. We hope that it will be possible to achieve the adoption of a single text. During each negotiation, we try to bring the positions of the parties closer together. At the moment, there is no agreement on a new meeting. As soon as there is, it will be announced," the Armenian official emphasized. Kostanyan noted that the principle of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation process is to restore the existing legal and juridical force of the 1991 border. He added that the latest maps that existed in 1991 shall be used for this, explaining that the 1976 map of the USSR army General Staff is used in the border delimitation at Tavush Province of Armenia. According to him, the statement by the border delimitation commissions of the two countries stipulates that the delimitation shall be carried out on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991. "We are working at the level of the foreign ministry in the negotiations on the document on the normalization of relations, so that the same wording and references to the Almaty Declaration find a place in it," said the Armenia deputy FM.
