PM Pashinyan: Armenia’s foreign policy is transparent

by Lilit Sept. 17, 2023

We are closely monitoring all statements concerning us and have and will respond as necessary, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters today, September 17, after voting in the mayoral elections, responding to the remark that US Assistant Secretary of State Yuri Kim said that the United States is striving to "reach the point where Armenia really decides to become a partner of the West, as opposed to Russia," and the question whether the United States spoke about this intention at the meetings. "The foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia is transparent, and I do not think that such formulations are appropriate. Armenia cannot change the vector of foreign policy in the sense that Armenia's foreign policy is always aligned with the state interests of Armenia. Therefore, the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia is always directed and oriented based on the political interests of the Republic of Armenia," he said. Regarding the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Armenia is “driving out Russians” with the support of the West, the Prime Minister said: “I prefer to comment on statements made by my colleagues. I proceed from the statements of the President of the Russian Federation; the rest are work processes.” Pashinyan also responded to the journalist’s remark that the Russian Foreign Ministry called Armenia’s steps unfriendly. “The head of the Russian Federation said that there are no problems with Armenia, just as there are no problems with the Prime Minister of Armenia,” he said.
