The Minister of Trade of Turkey, Omer Bolat, has confirmed that his country's trade with Israel has been completely suspended since May 2. "From May 2, export-import activities with Israel have been completely stopped. Our position on this matter is clear and well known. The decision to stop trade was made due to Israel's refusal to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza," the minister said on A-para television. Bolat had said earlier that the Turkish government's decision to freeze trade with Israel would remain in effect until Israel halts its attacks on Gaza, secures a permanent ceasefire, and ensures the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to this Palestinian enclave. Israel-Turkey relations have deteriorated sharply amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October of last year.
