News - Police car deliberately drives toward reporter in downtown Yerevan

A little while ago, a police car almost ran over a reporter on Abovyan Street, near Republic Square, the heart of Armenia’s capital, Yerevan. When the reporter was crossing the street, the police van, which was standing still until then, abruptly moved and drove towards the reporter, then, upon reaching the reporter, braked sharply. A special police officer approached the frightened reporter and tried to calm her down. Large number of special police forces are at Republic Square. Protest and awareness actions are being held in Yerevan again. When a march with a large number of people reached Republic Square, the special police forces again began to forcibly detain its participants. Numerous streets in Yerevan are being blocked again Tuesday morning—and at the call of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Tavush for the Homeland movement and Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church. On May 4, the Tavush for the Homeland movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, had started a march from Kirants border village of Tavush Province to Yerevan, and this march reached the Armenian capital on May 9. Those who have joined this movement are against the incumbent Armenian authorities’ policy of unilateral concessions to Azerbaijan.
