According to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the war in the South Caucasus in 2020 was a prelude to further developments, and now the collapse of the world order is clearly taking place. The Pashinyan stated this at the discussion, entitled "From the frontline: Armenia’s defence of democracy," on the margins of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024, while answering the question about the difficult security situation around Armenia. The premier stressed that democracy did not appear in Armenia simply due to circumstances. In his view, it fully coincides with the way of thinking of the Armenian people, and it is a strategy for the Armenian government. That is their political belief. It is also their political identity because the members of their political team fought most of their lives for the establishment of democracy, rule of law, and freedom of speech in Armenia. And now they have the opportunity to invest all those values in the country. But, of course, the security situation was difficult, and now it is even more difficult not only because of regional situation, but also because of the global situation because obviously the world order is collapsing now. The war that took place in Armenia’s region in the fall of 2020 was a kind of prelude to further developments, Pashinyan stated.
