Diplomacy and dialogue are the only way to peace and stability in the South Caucasus. This was announced by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office as well as Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Ian Borg, at his joint news conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, on Monday in Yerevan. Borg stated that Malta's Chairmanship-in-Office at the OSCE is taking place amid many challenges in the OSCE area. As one of the ways to deal with them, he mentioned the need for general efforts and strengthening of the organization's flexibility, for which it is indispensable to ensure sound financial foundations and effective management. Therefore, the will of all 57 members of the OSCE is necessary. And during his visit to the South Caucasus, Borg is ready to listen to the interlocutors and exchange views on challenges, he added. Speaking about the problems of the South Caucasus, the Maltese minister emphasized that only diplomacy and dialogue can be the path to stability and peace. Constructive dialogue between equals, guided by pragmatism and sincerity, is indispensable in achieving lasting peace, said Borg, considering the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan a valuable step on that path. The OSCE Chairman-in-Office pledged to convey the messages to Azerbaijan because, in his words, after decades of suffering, it is extremely important for the people to achieve the peace and prosperity they deserve, and the OSCE is ready to support the displaced persons and those living in the affected areas. Separately, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office noted this organization's priorities in security reforms and the fight against climate change. Borg said they are ready to support and increase the influence of the OSCE in Armenia, and they can rely on one another. His goal, as the OSCE Chairman-in-Office is to deepen cooperation and achieve peace in these difficult times, added Ian Borg.
