News - Armenia ex-MP Karen Saribekyan dies aged 61

Karen Saribekyan, a former MP of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, has died at the age of 61, informed the Association of Veterans of the Afghanistan War of Armenia, whose council member Saribekyan was. In 1990-1994, he participated in the Nagorno-Karabakh liberation movement and the battles for the defense of the borders of Armenia. From 2002 to 2005, he was a member of the Council of Elders of Vanadzor city. He was a member of the Yerkrapah Volunteers Union of Armenia, and Lori Province chairman of the Association of Veterans of the Afghanistan War of Armenia. From 2007 to 2012, he was an NA lawmaker and a member of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs. On May 6, 2012, he was reelected a member of the NA. Karen Saribekyan was awarded with a number of medals and orders.
