Three foreign citizens were detained while attempting to illegally cross the Armenian-Turkish border, Sputnik Armenia reports, citing information confirmed by the National Security Service of Armenia. The Security Service reported that its main investigative department initiated criminal proceedings in connection with an attempt to illegally cross the Armenian-Turkish border by two foreign citizens in the Ararat region. Another case was initiated in connection with an attempt to cross the border of Armenia in the Armavir region “without the necessary documents and appropriate permission.” The incident occurred on August 20. According to Sputnik Armenia, in the first case, in early September, near the village of Burastan, Russian border guards detained two Bangladeshi citizens who wanted to cross from Armenia to Turkey. In the second case, they detained a Turkish citizen who wanted to get from Turkey to Armenia; he was detained near the village of Berkashat. At the end of July, a Syrian citizen was detained while trying to illegally cross the border. Within the framework of the interstate agreement, the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in Armenia is responsible for protecting the state border of Armenia with Turkey and Iran.
